10 Card Drinking Games You Can Play With One Deck

10 card drinking games you can play with a single deck, from Kings Cup and Ride the Bus to Pyramid, with quick rules for each.

One deck of cards is enough for a whole night. These 10 card drinking games cover two players to twelve, from five minute rounds to games that take an hour.

1. Kings Cup

Spread the cards in a circle around a cup. Each card has a rule, and the fourth King drinks the cup. Full card meanings are in our Kings Cup rules.

Players: 3 or more. Length: 30 to 45 minutes.

2. Higher or Lower

Flip a card, guess if the next is higher or lower. Wrong guess, sip. See the Higher or Lower rules and variations.

Players: 2 or more. Length: as long as you like.

3. Ride the Bus

Four rounds of guesses for each player: red or black, higher or lower, inside or outside, and the suit. Each wrong guess is a sip. The player with the worst record “rides the bus” through a final row of cards.

Players: 3 to 8. Length: 30 minutes.

4. Pyramid

Deal four cards to each player and build a face down pyramid. Flip pyramid cards one at a time. If you hold a match, hand out sips. You can bluff, but if someone calls it and you were lying, the sips double back on you.

Players: 3 to 8. Length: 20 minutes.

5. Snap

The kids’ game with a sip for the slower hand. Fast, loud and good for two.

Players: 2 to 4. Length: 10 minutes.

6. Red or Black

The simplest game on the list. Guess the color of the next card. Wrong guess, sip. Right guess, pick who sips.

Players: 2 or more. Length: 5 minutes.

7. Dealer’s choice

One player is the dealer. The others guess the value of the top card, with two tries and a “higher” or “lower” hint in between. Wrong both times, the guesser sips. Right the first time, the dealer does. The deal moves on after three wrong guessers in a row.

Players: 4 or more. Length: 30 minutes.

8. Across the bridge

Lay ten cards face down in a row. A player flips them one by one. Number cards are safe. Face cards mean a sip and extra cards added to the bridge.

Players: 2 or more. Length: 10 minutes per player.

9. Speed facts

Flip a card and name something in a category that matches the suit: hearts for love songs, clubs for bars, diamonds for things that cost too much, spades for jobs. Last to answer sips.

Players: 3 or more. Length: 15 minutes.

10. Crazy eights with sips

Regular crazy eights, but every card you draw is a sip, and the winner makes a rule for the next round.

Players: 2 to 6. Length: 15 minutes per round.
