15 Drinking Games Without Cards (No Cups or Dice Either)

15 drinking games without cards, cups or dice. Word games, pointing games and phone games you can start in ten seconds anywhere.

No deck, no ping pong balls, no dice. Just people and drinks. These 15 drinking games without cards work at a house party, in a bar, on a balcony or anywhere someone says “so what do we play?”

Talking games

1. Never Have I Ever

Say something you have never done. Everyone who has done it sips. Full rules and 80 questions are in our Never Have I Ever guide.

2. Truth or drink

Ask a question. Answer honestly or sip. Start with our truth or drink questions.

3. Most likely to

Someone asks “who is most likely to…” and everyone points on three. One sip per finger pointing at you.

4. Two truths and a lie

Share three facts about yourself, one of them fake. Anyone who guesses wrong sips. If everyone gets it right, you do.

5. Would you rather

Ask a would you rather question and vote on three. The minority sips.

Word and counting games

6. Categories

Pick a category, like cocktails or car brands. Go around the circle naming things in it. Repeat one or freeze and you sip.

7. Rhyme time

Say a word. Each player has to rhyme with it. First to run out sips and starts the next round.

8. 21

Count to 21 around the circle, saying one, two or three numbers each. Whoever says 21 sips and adds a new rule, like swapping a number for a word.

9. Fuzzy duck

Go around saying “fuzzy duck”. Anyone can say “does he?” to reverse direction, and then the phrase becomes “ducky fuzz”. Mess up and you sip.

10. Name game

Say a famous name. The next player says a name starting with the first letter of the last name. Double initials reverse the direction.

Pointing and reaction games

11. Thumb master

One player is thumb master and can put a thumb on the table at any time. Last to copy sips.

12. Medusa

Everyone looks down. On three, look up at another player. If two people lock eyes, both sip.

13. Paranoia

Whisper a “who would…” question to your neighbor. They say the answer out loud. The named person can sip to hear the question.

Phone games

14. Hot potato

Start a timer nobody can see and pass the phone while answering a prompt. Whoever holds it when it goes off sips.

15. A party game app

Let an app deal the cards, name the player and keep the pace.

The deck lives in your pocket

How to pick the right game

  • Just met: Categories, 21 and two truths and a lie.
  • Close friends: Most likely to and Paranoia.
  • Big loud group: Thumb master, Medusa and Fuzzy duck.
  • Two people: Truth or drink and would you rather.

Play it smart: any drink counts as a sip, and nobody has to drink to play.
