Halloween parties run on three things: costumes, snacks and a game that gets strangers in masks talking to each other. These 12 Halloween drinking games need almost no setup, and most of them work with whatever is already on the table.
Costume games
1. Costume roll call
Everyone introduces their costume in character. Break character before the round ends and you sip.
2. Guess the costume
One player leaves the room. The group picks someone’s costume and the player gets five yes or no questions to guess whose it is. Wrong guess, they sip. Right guess, the costume owner sips.
3. Best and worst
Everyone votes for the best costume by pointing on three. The winner hands out five sips. Anyone who came without a costume takes two.
4. Stay in character
Pick one player per round who must speak only as their costume would. First slip ends their turn with a sip.
Horror movie games
5. Horror movie rules
Put on a scary movie and sip when someone says “hello?” into the dark, when a phone has no signal, when a car will not start and when the group splits up.
6. Final girl
Before the movie starts, everyone bets on who survives. Each time your pick escapes, hand out a sip. If they do not make it, you finish your drink at the credits.
7. Jump scare
Whoever flinches hardest at a jump scare sips. The group decides, and arguing counts as flinching.
Spooky party games
8. Ghost story chain
Tell a ghost story one sentence at a time around the circle. Hesitate for more than three seconds or break the story and you sip.
9. Witch’s rule
The first player to finish a drink becomes the witch and sets a rule for the night, like no pointing or no first names. Break it and you sip.
10. Cursed
One player is cursed and must end every sentence with “or so they say”. They pass the curse on by catching someone else breaking a rule.
Curses come built in
Not Another Drinking Game has curses, roles and rules that stick to players, plus six modes and four mini games. Add names and pass the phone.
11. Candy roulette
Fill a bowl with wrapped candy and mark a few wrappers on the inside. Unwrap a marked one and you take a dare from the group.
12. Trick or drink
The Halloween version of truth or drink. Ask a question, and the player answers honestly or takes a sip. See our truth or drink questions for ideas.
Tips for hosting
- Put water and soft drinks next to everything else. Any drink counts as a sip.
- Keep rounds short. Ten minutes per game is plenty before people want to move.
- Skip dares that involve costumes coming off, strangers or anything outdoors in the dark.
Play it smart: nobody has to drink to play, and nobody drives home after drinking. Sort out rides before the first round.
One app for the whole party
